Audi Recalls 4,858 Vehicles Due to Starter Generator Issues
Written with artificial intelligence.

Volkswagen Group Japan announced a recall on October 15 for 4,858 Audi vehicles across 17 models due to a defect in the 48V belt-driven starter generator. This issue could potentially lead to a loss of power while driving.
Recall Details
Volkswagen Group Japan has reported a recall involving 4,858 Audi vehicles spanning 17 different models to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. The recall pertains to a defect in the 48V belt-driven starter generator, which poses a risk of causing the vehicle to become inoperable in severe cases.
Affected Models
The affected models include:
- Audi A6
- Audi S6
- Audi RS6
- Audi A7
- Audi S7
- Audi RS7
- Audi Q7
- Audi A8
- Audi A8L
- Audi S8
- Audi Q8
- Audi RSQ8
This recall encompasses a total of 24 variations produced between June 18, 2018, and November 27, 2023.
Nature of the Defect
The issue arises from the insufficient durability of electronic components within the inverter of the starter generator. Thermal fatigue can lead to cracks at the solder joints on the circuit board, resulting in poor contact.
As a consequence, both the 48V and 12V batteries may fail to charge, triggering warning lights. In the worst-case scenario, the voltage of the 12V battery could drop, rendering the vehicle inoperable.
Remedial Action
To address this issue, all affected vehicles will undergo inspections of the starter generator, with necessary replacements being made with improved components.
