Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Expected to Return by 2028

Reports indicate that Dodge plans to revive the Charger SRT Hellcat with a supercharged Hemi V8 engine, aiming for production to start by the end of 2027. The automaker is reportedly targeting an annual production of 12,000 units.
Potential Return of the Charger SRT Hellcat
Dodge appears to be gearing up to reintroduce the Charger with a Hemi engine. Earlier this year, it was reported that a new Charger SRT Hellcat was in the early stages of development for the 2028 model year, and recent updates seem to confirm this.
According to a new report from Automotive News, Dodge plans to start production of the Charger Hellcat, featuring a supercharged 6.2-liter V8, by the end of 2027. The company has allegedly informed its suppliers about a production goal of 12,000 Charger Hellcats annually.
If this timeline holds true, Dodge may unveil the new Charger SRT Hellcat by August during the annual Roadkill Nights event, where the new Charger Super Bee was previously showcased.
Current Charger Production Status
Dodge ceased production of its Hemi-powered Charger and Challenger models at the end of 2023. A new electric Charger, available in two- and four-door configurations, began production in late 2024. The first thermal engine versions were not expected to be released until the end of 2025, lacking the Hemi V8 that had been a significant factor in their predecessors' success. Currently, the Charger is available with a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine in two power levels.
Despite recent increases in Charger thermal sales, the figures remain significantly below those of the previous generation. In the last production year for the old platform, Dodge sold 75,920 Charger sedans and 44,960 Challenger coupes.
In addition to the Charger SRT Hellcat, Dodge is expanding its lineup with two new models, including a showcase model and the GLH crossover, which will also feature an SRT variant. The base version of the GLH is expected to start under $40,000.
Dodge's roadmap, FaSTLAne 2030, indicates that a new Charger SRT variant is in development. Dodge's leadership emphasizes that the company will continue to innovate and push forward in the performance segment.
