Electric Trucks Set to Transform Transport by 2026 with BYD, Tesla, and MAN

Overview of Electric Truck Innovations

At the recent IAA Transportation 2026 in Hannover, three major companies—BYD from China, Tesla from the United States, and MAN from Germany—presented their advancements in electric trucks. These vehicles are a critical part of the ongoing effort to electrify heavy transportation and reduce reliance on gasoline.

Key Models Presented

• MAN eTGX: This truck boasts improved aerodynamics and a new battery generation that increases energy availability by 10%. It can achieve a range of up to 660 kilometers, featuring a gross battery capacity of 552 kWh. Notably, MAN also offers a 6x2 version that can reach an autonomy of 720 kilometers.
• Tesla Semi: With a distinctive aerodynamic design, this truck is equipped with three independent electric motors producing up to 800 kW (approximately 1,088 hp). The Standard Range version has a battery capacity of 548 kWh and an estimated range of 550 kilometers. Tesla claims the Semi can regain 60% of its range in just 30 minutes of charging.
• BYD ETT 44: This model includes advanced features aimed at long-distance operations, with a powerful motor generating up to 1,000 hp and a large 651 kWh battery. It supports fast charging using the CCS2 or the MCS system, allowing for rapid recharges from 20% to 80% in as little as 20 minutes.

The Push for Decarbonization

While achieving complete decarbonization of the transport sector remains a challenge, these electric trucks represent significant steps toward reducing emissions. The global push for sustainable energy sources, particularly in Europe, underscores the importance of these innovations in the transportation industry.
