Hyundai has officially introduced the fifth-generation Tucson SUV in New York, showcasing a new design and enhanced features. The model includes a next-generation hybrid system, an AI assistant, and expanded dimensions, with sales expected to begin in South Korea in late 2026.
Introduction of the New Tucson
Hyundai Motor Company has unveiled the fifth-generation Tucson, a global best-selling SUV, in New York. This updated model represents a complete overhaul since its debut in 2004, with over 11 million units sold worldwide.
Design and Dimensions
The new Tucson emphasizes the concept of "The Boldest SUV" and utilizes Hyundai's design language known as "Art of Steel." The vehicle features a more robust body, with an increase in size: a length of 4700 mm (+60 mm), width of 1905 mm (+40 mm), and height of 1685 mm (+20 mm). The door opening angle has also been improved from 73 degrees to 83 degrees, enhancing accessibility.
New color options inspired by nature include Ranger Green Pearl and Kodiak Blue Pearl, along with innovative lighting features like H-Edge Lighting and Prism Rear Lamps, offering high precision lighting control.
Advanced Hybrid System and AI Features
The Tucson is equipped with a next-generation hybrid system, featuring a dual-motor setup for improved acceleration. The plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model combines a 1.6L turbo engine with a powerful motor, achieving a system output of 292 hp and an estimated EV range of about 81 km. New functionalities such as HEV Stay Mode allow for powering devices without starting the engine.
The infotainment system is based on Android Automotive OS, featuring an AI assistant called Gleo AI that responds to natural language requests. The system supports over-the-air updates to enhance functionality post-purchase.
Safety and Off-Road Capabilities
Safety is a priority, with features like an In-Cabin Monitoring Unit and child presence detection systems. The Tucson will also offer off-road variants, including the Tucson XRT and XRT PRO, the latter featuring Hyundai's first smart terrain assist technology.
Market Availability
Sales of the new Tucson are set to begin in South Korea in late 2026, with a global rollout to markets in North America and Europe planned for 2027. Additionally, the sporty Tucson N Line will make its debut at the Paris Motor Show on October 12, 2026.
