The S1 Project
According to German economic newspaper Handelsblatt, the potential new model, dubbed 'S1', may feature a unique eight-cylinder boxer engine. Unlike previous models, the S1 is expected to be an independent vehicle rather than a variant of the 911. It is speculated that the starting price could be around €500,000, indicating a significant leap from the 911 GT3 RS and future GT2 RS, with a higher level of exclusivity.
Technical Details and Development History
While specific details regarding the S1's name, pricing, and technical specifications have not been officially confirmed, the idea of a V8 boxer engine is not new for Porsche. The company had previously developed an experimental prototype based on the Cayman, equipped with a 5.0 V8 boxer biturbo engine producing 750 hp. However, this project was shelved as it was deemed unsuitable at the time.
