Volkswagen Unveils ID. Tiguan with Enhanced Features and 600 km Range

Volkswagen has rebranded its electric SUV from ID.4 to ID. Tiguan, introducing updated design features and improved driving technology. The vehicle offers a range of up to 600 kilometers and will be available for order starting October 13, with a market launch expected in early 2027.

Introduction of the ID. Tiguan

Volkswagen has officially renamed its electric SUV from ID.4 to ID. Tiguan, while the ID.5 will be phased out without a direct successor. The new ID. Tiguan measures 4.62 meters in length, about three centimeters longer than the ID.4, but is slightly lower in height. The cargo space ranges from 534 to 1,577 liters, and for the first time, a front trunk (frunk) is included.

Design Changes

The visual updates are significant, with a wider and more robust front appearance. The lighting design is inspired by the ID. Cross, and the side features a straight character line, replacing the curved line of the ID.4. Traditional door handles replace the previously used flush handles, and wheel sizes range from 19 to 21 inches depending on the trim.

Interior Enhancements

Inside, the ID. Tiguan boasts a new 10-inch instrument display and a larger 15-inch central touchscreen. An optional 12-inch display for the passenger is also available. Volkswagen has reintroduced physical buttons on the steering wheel for climate controls, replacing the touch sliders. A unique feature allows retro displays of instruments from classic VW models like the Golf IV and Beetle.

Driving Technology and Performance

New functionalities include standard one-pedal driving and a Connected Travel Assist that facilitates assisted lane changes and automatic stopping at red lights. The ID. Tiguan's powertrains mainly utilize familiar technology, starting with a base version that delivers 140 kW (190 hp) with a 58 kWh battery, offering a WLTP range of up to 450 kilometers. A rear-wheel drive variant with 210 kW (286 hp) and a 77 kWh battery provides up to 600 kilometers of range, while the all-wheel drive version with 220 kW (299 hp) achieves up to 560 kilometers.

Pricing and Availability

The starting price for the ID. Tiguan is set at €42,695, positioning it similarly to the previous ID.4. It remains unclear if Volkswagen will offer a purchase incentive at launch. Orders will commence on October 13, with the vehicle entering the market in early 2027. Production will take place in Emden.
