Production Launch of New Electric Trucks
Volvo Trucks has officially started the production of its new electric truck lineup, unveiling models such as the Volvo FH Aero Electric, capable of traveling up to 700 km on a single charge. This lineup was first introduced in April 2023, and the initial production model has now been delivered from the Tuve factory in Gothenburg, Sweden. This production launch signifies a pivotal moment for the electric trucking industry.
Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks, emphasized the company's commitment to implementing innovative technology in real-world applications. He stated that the production of these new electric trucks clearly demonstrates Volvo's intention to lead the transition towards more sustainable truck transportation. Alm noted a very positive customer response and high interest in truck orders, highlighting the increased range and versatility of the new models, which facilitate an easier shift to electrification.
The standout model in the new electric truck lineup is the Volvo FH Aero Electric, which features advanced e-axle technology that significantly increases battery capacity. This enables the truck to achieve a maximum range of 700 km on a single charge. With megawatt charging capabilities and a high payload capacity, these electric trucks can now service routes that were previously reliant on diesel trucks. Additionally, the lineup includes the next-generation Volvo FH, FM, and FMX electric models, all equipped with a new electric drivetrain designed for improved energy efficiency, productivity, and driving performance, with ranges of up to 470 km.
The electric trucks are produced at Volvo's facilities in Gothenburg, Sweden, and Ghent, Belgium. The lineup was showcased at the IAA Transportation 2026 event held in Hanover, Germany, from September 14 to 20, 2023.
As a global leader in the electric truck sector, Volvo Trucks boasts the industry's most comprehensive electric truck portfolio, featuring eight different models that cater to a wide range of transportation tasks, including urban logistics, waste management, regional and long-distance transport, and construction.
