Volvo Plans Major Product Offensive with 13 New Models by 2030

Volvo is set to launch its largest product initiative in 99 years, introducing 13 new models by the end of 2030. This includes six vehicles for the U.S. and Europe, along with another six tailored for the Chinese market.

Overview of Volvo's Plans

Volvo is embarking on an extensive product offensive, marking a significant milestone in its 99-year history. The Swedish automaker aims to unveil 13 new models by the end of 2030, including six for the U.S. and European markets, and six more specifically designed for China.

Addressing Sales Decline

This ambitious initiative follows a decline in sales reported during the first half of the year. Global sales for Volvo fell by 11% in the first quarter, followed by a 5.6% decrease in the second quarter. The company hopes that this product renewal will help regain market share and improve profitability.

New Electric and Hybrid Models

The upcoming models will feature third-generation electric and hybrid vehicles. If the plans proceed smoothly, Volvo expects to double its market share and increase its EBIT margin to over 8% by 2030, up from 3.5% in 2025. The vehicles for Western markets will utilize Volvo's HuginCore computing platform and will be based on the SPA2 and SPA3 architectures, which are currently exclusive to electric cars.

Future Models for the U.S. and China

According to reports, Volvo may introduce electric sedan and station wagon models in the U.S. by 2028, likely under the S60 and V70 designations, alongside a new crossover, the EX50. The models aimed at the Chinese market will leverage platforms developed by Geely, focusing on regional needs and collaborative supply chains to manage costs.

Changes in Sales Strategy

Volvo plans to transform its sales approach by offering transparent pricing, simplified offers, and special quick-delivery versions. The software-defined nature of SPA2 and SPA3 will also enable regular over-the-air software updates, enhancing the vehicles' technology over time.

Hakan Samuelsson, Volvo's president and CEO, remarked that the company's showrooms will look very different by 2030, emphasizing their ambition to become a leading premium brand tailored to regional demands.
