Currently, the Q9 is available with a diesel TDI engine featuring a 3.0-liter V6 that produces 299 hp, equipped with quattro all-wheel drive and a Tiptronic automatic transmission.

Recent spy images have unveiled the Q9's plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version without any camouflage. This PHEV variant includes specific identifiers such as an electric hazard warning on the windshield and the rear window, mandatory for high-voltage battery prototypes.
